The dog behind Hounds of Humanity

Maya was an 11-year-old black lab living in Seattle when she started Hounds of Humanity. After the passing of her dear friend Sigi, she realized that dog lives are fleeting and their stories should be shared.

Maya spent her final years listening to her fellow dogs from around the world. Maya often admitted that she could not have done this on her own. She provided great inspiration to her human companion and translator, Claire.

In March 2021, Maya’s heartbroken family, along with her 5-year-old mentee Juno, gathered to say goodbye.

Juno is now senior editor at Hounds of Humanity. Her secret talent is poop-walking in the shape of a J.
